Basically, when you get a logo designed, your designer will send you a logo suite (a BUNCH of files) + a style guide. Different platforms need different file types + colour breakdowns โ weโll give you some examples.

Colour breakdowns:

๐ RGB โ used for digital
โ
๐ CMYK โ used for print

File types:

๐ PNG โ preferred for digital use (gives you a crisper finish)

๐ EPS + PDF โ what your sign writer will want to put your signage together (buildings, cars etc.)

The logo itself has different formats too โ stacked, landscape + logo mark. The logo mark is an important one, as this can be used as your social media profile pic โ think of the McDonalds โMโ.

Oh! You canโt forget about the reversed out + mono versions of your logo. Itโs going to be used in all kinds of different places, not just on a perfectly white background every time (that would be easier though, hey?). Maybe you need a social media template with your logo as an overlay + a photo might make your logo illegible. Also, embroidery + merchandise suppliers can sometimes only print in one colour. In these cases, youโd want a full white or black logo to get the job done.

Our biggest tip?

DOWNLOAD ALL THE FILES! We canโt stress this enough. Youโd be better off having everything than missing something you need later on + when you send your logo to a supplier, send the style guide with it. Thatโs what will tell them how the logo should be used, to make sure that it gets reproduced perfectly, every time ๐
