Episode Notes
There are two main reasons why having a mobile-responsive site is a must.
1. User experience (UX) - A significant portion of internet traffic comes from mobile devices, so providing users with a seamless experience across any device is vital.
2. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - Google now penalises sites that are not mobile-responsive by not showing them on mobile searches.
So, what does mobile-responsive mean? It means that the user experience on a mobile device should be functionally the same as on a desktop. This includes navigation, functionality, and display.
Top tips for making your website marvelous on mobile.
1. Navigation
- Make sure it goes to a burger menu (at the right time + right size)
- Don’t have a heap of nested folders
- Don’t have a heap of pages underneath each folder
- Do have a good contrast in your colours (to make the words as legible as possible – especially for the burger menu)
2. Functionality
- Obvs check everything works as it should still (eg forms, plugins, iframes etc)
- Video – make sure it has the right settings for mobiles (so it doesn’t get blocked) > check this on desktop as well as mobile (can shrink you desktop screen to see how and then this happens)
3. Display
- Check font sizes are displaying correctly
- Make sure nothing has been cut off/hidden/blocked
- Make sure images have relevant focal points + that they look good on multiple screen sizes
- Check page length – people don’t want to be scrolling forever on their phone (unless it’s on socials lol)
