Directors’ Circle - Kate Olsen, Modure Constructions

Kate is one of the loveliest and most engaged clients we have ever had. She’s got an inspiring vision for where she wants to take Modure Constructions, and at the heart of that is ensuring their clients are informed, confident and 100% satisfied (if not crazy-ecstatic) with the work that they perform. It’s hard not to get swept up in Kate’s wave of exciting ideas and her obvious dedication to client care – which is why we wanted to put her in the director’s hot seat, and pick her brain!

Why did you decide to start your own business? We recognised the trade industry was tainted for being unreliable and unprofessional, either by being late to appointments or not rocking up at all. We wanted to create something that blew the general tradies stigma away.

What was the biggest surprise for you about starting a business? How hard it is to get the recipe right. You may have all the ingredients for a good business but getting the 'cake baked perfectly' takes a lot more time, energy, knowledge, and dedication.

How do you think you’ve changed since running a business? I have more appreciation for fellow business owners and know that all is not what it seems on the surface.

What do you to do recharge? Walk, walk and walk some more, has become my non-negotiable 'time out' that is a crucial part to me staying sane and keeping a level head.

What is your top tip for keeping organised? Lists, obsess over your lists. Daily lists, home lists, work lists, family lists, and doing a little (or a lot) of everything, every day to keep on your game!

Who is your hero? There's no one hero in my life - my friends and family are my biggest supporters, who I couldn't live without.

What habits help with your life-work balance? Work hard and play hard. We are always planning weekends away within our region with our family and friends, whether it's camping or a trip up to Airlie Beach - there is always a number of little 'getaways' to look forward to at any one time.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? Marine Biologist

Give a shout out to three local businesses!
